HUMBLE SERVICE

The theme for our meditation today is: Humble Service. There are countless examples of humble service in the world, which in principle follow and practice the teachings of our Supreme Teacher Jesus Christ. One of them happened in the 1590's, when a man of God, who was a diocesan priest, passionately carrying out an apostolic work began in the city of Paris (France) and the surroundings. That man was Saint Vincent a Paulo. He is known as the apostle of the poor, the abandoned youth, the sick and the unemployed. His simplicity of working in the midst of the little ones of the society had really initiated a kind of revolutionary ministry of the Church at that time.

Jesus Christ is our supreme Teacher who teaches us the importance of humble service. The teachers of this world at some point in time don't teach anymore because they retire and pass away. However, Jesus never retires and would not resign to teach on the preciousness of humble service. Everyone from all walks of life and from all generations is still learning in Jesus Christ. His teachings are never out of date or run out of resources. His teachings are learnt by everyone at all times.

As long as we always read, listen, meditate, and practice the teaching of the scriptures, we experience the person of Jesus Christ himself, and we will know the humble person of Jesus in the service of others. Today we come to know the Lord Jesus Christ once again, who teaches us about a place of honor in His Kingdom. The place of honor is reserved for people who are entitled and worthy to occupy it. Who are those people who are worthy of that honorable place?

When you as a guest invited by someone, you are asked to take a sit in a special place, for example right next to the host or master of the house. This is how God prepares a place right beside Him, in the kingdom of heaven, for those He chooses. There are many criteria set by Jesus so that we can fulfill all the worthiness and standard rightfulness to sit beside Him.

One of the criteria would be what Jesus showes us today. He places a little child beside Him. The message for us should be this one: that we should be humble and sincere like little children who are very dependent, so that our place is so honored in the kingdom of Heaven, which is close to the Lord Jesus Christ. How many people to be near the Lord Jesus Christ? Zechariah's prophecy today says that, all people from west to east, north to south have the right to receive the loving service of God and and by this way they will be saved.

Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O good Father, may your words make us more humble and sincere in serving, as we have always been served by your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Hail Mary full of grace... In the name of the Father...
