SIMPLICITY IS A POWER

The theme for our meditation today is: Simplicity is a Power. When Jesus commissioned His disciples to perform services to the people without being equipped with adequate facilities and supporting materials, those sent did not complain and protest. They were sure to do the duty with pleasure. They performed it in the spirit of simplicity and had very limited resources. But this was a power, a strength. They didn't have to worry because Jesus would always accompany them.

There is an example of simplicity in action shown by the prophet Ezra in the Book of Ezra. He revealed how life was full of suffering and struggle experienced by the Israelites in the Babylonian exile. The resources of their lives were limited and often they as the people chosen by God were tempted to fall into sin of idolatry. However, Ezra entrusted the entire life of this people to God who had promised the moment of deliverance for them one day. He was also grateful that the ruler of the Babylonian kingdom had compassion on the Israelites and promised to deliver them at a proper time.

There are many great and positive statements about simplicity. People say to be simple is beautiful. Simplicity is happiness. To be simple is empowering. A simple life is noble and so on. A simple living is not about being poor and destitute, nor is it about doing nothing or wanting nothing. A simple life is seen as beautiful, happy and noble because it is lived in humility and the awareness that mistakes or failures can be corrected through forgiveness, acceptance and repentance. We are human beings with all our shortcomings and only from God do we hope to obtain the fullness of life.

The simplicity as a power signifies one’s dependent only on God. We enjoy this life by carrying out our respective roles and responsibilities, from which we get the rewards and results we deserve. This life is dedicated and offered to God, our children, brothers and sisters, and the people we serve. Each of us is given responsibilities and duties by God and it is sufficient for us to carry them out. He is sure to be with us and of course this assurance removes all the worries of the world about money, food, clothes, closeness, togetherness and so on. Our lives are under God's control.

The principle of simplicity is a power would be this one: that we live this life according to our respective abilities gifted, and if we are unable to do one thing or another because of certain challenges or obstacles, God will do his part for us. That is the power of simplicity.

Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Father in heaven, we always pray, "Thy kingdom come" so that we can make our lives strengthened, which is in line with our abilities and also depend always on Your power. Our Father who art in Heaven... In the name of the Father...
