The Warlock of the Mountains

Narratives

As their journey continued, the sun slowly set on the horizon, giving out a warm, orange light. Magnus gasped for breath as he walked up the steep slope.

“Can’t we take a rest? It’s already dusk, we’ve been walking all day!” he complained. Aris stopped and turned to approach the sitting Magnus.

“We HAVE to find Aline. She’s our friend,” Aris answered.

“Magnus’s right, we should take a rest Aris. We can’t see anything anymore. We can just go by dawn,” a fair-skinned girl, Tania, spoke. Aris looked at Tania and Magnus, then stared at the other girl in their group, Eugene, raising one eyebrow as if to ask her opinion. Eugene nodded slowly, because she was also tired of walking up the mountain.

“Well then, where should we stay the night?” Aris asked in an annoyed tone. There was silence for a moment, everyone thought of the possible places they could safely sleep at. A cave? Here in the field? They did not have any idea.

“Um… Why don’t we sleep under the trees in the forest there?” Eugene finally mumbled. Three of the others looked at their surroundings, finding a nearby forest of large pine trees. Aris grabbed his backpack and walked towards it. Acknowledging this code, Eugene, Tania and Magnus followed behind him.

“Everyone, find some firewood to start the fire. Tania, help me set up the tents, and Magnus,” Aris stared at Magnus for a bit, “help Eugene.” When Magnus ran towards Eugene, he tripped over a branch, or what looked like it.

“Guys! Come here!” Magnus screamed. Everyone else approached Magnus and stopped in surprise. It was a really big bone. Terrified and confused, things had gotten worse. They suddenly heard a big howl of a dog, maybe something bigger than one.

“We should get out of here, find a safe place. I don’t think it’s safe here,” Tania whispered. Magnus already ran quickly to their tents.

Huff. Puff. There was a heavy gasp of breath, right above Magnus when he took his things. Shaken by horror, he slowly, carefully looked up, to see a large snout, drool dripping from its mouth. It was a gigantic wolf, one that you would likelt see in a thriller movie. It looked down on Magnus with its big, red eyes.

With a swift swing, it grabbed Magnus and ran up the mountain with him in its jaws…
