The Holy Week is the most important week for every Christian. Entering the holy week we celebrate Palm Sunday, or Passion Sunday, Christ's entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish his paschal mystery. The faithful, holding the palm branches, praise the Lord saying Hosanna, the Son of David. Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heavens!
Holy Thursday or Maudy Thursday is the celebration of the Lord's Last Supper, Christ's giving of himself. To his enemies, to die on the cross for the life of the world, his blood saves his people; to his friends and disciples, the Church, all of us, Jesus inherits the sacrament of Eucharist, the sacrament of his body and blood.
Good Friday celebrates the passion and death of the Lord. On this day we listen to the words of scripture; we pray with his spirit for the needs of the whole world; we worship the cross as the symbol of triumph; and finally enter into the sacramental communion with him who is our only Saviour.
Holy Saturday or the Easter Vigil (Exodus 12:42). The gospel of Saint Luke (12:34ff) reminds us to have our lamps burning ready, to be like men waiting their master's return, so that when he arrives he will find us wide awake and seat at his table.
Easter Sunday Alleluia is the song of praise to the risen Christ who is our life and whose triumph over death we proclaim to all the world. Happy Easter!
