Reading and meditation on the Word of God on Friday of the twenty-sixth week in ordinary time, October 2, 2026, Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels.
Our meditation today has the theme: Good Heavenly Beings. Our guardian angels do not have names and they are numerous. Each Angel is entrusted by the Lord to each person or group of people. This angel is different from the patron saint of every follower of Christ. They are spirit beings who have been in heaven with God from the very beginning, while the saints were former inhabitants of this earth like everyone of us who are still alive.
Their main duty as the messengers of God is to help and to do the works that God entrusts them to do. There is no way for them to go against God and to carry out the wrong works that are not from God. They help us to make our lives here on earth safe and bring joy to our common living on earth. This clearly shows us that our guardian angels are truly the good heavenly beings and known for their true deeds.
For example, in the Acts of the Apostles chapter 12 verse 11, when Peter was bound and locked up in prison, at night the guardian angel woke him up, untied him, and carried him out of the prison through tight security and locked gates. Peter realized that he was not dreaming, then he said: "I really know, God sent His angel to deliver me". Daniel also had the similar experience. While he was in the lion's den and about to be destroyed by those beasts, his guardian angel came to protect him (Dan. 6, 22).
Our guardian angels are so generous because they reveal to us the message and the will of God. Their duty is on two levels. The first one is something to be carried out on this earth. The book of Exodus today describes how the people of Israel had left Egypt and wandered in the wilderness, then God sent an angel to walk in front of them. The angel protected and guided them so that they could come to a place where they were destined to. They must not reject this kindness fo God and His angel. This also applies to us in this world, that the guardian angel is sent by God to help, accompany and guide every one of us.
The second is something to be done in heaven, where the guardian angel watches over and illuminates God's children who are in the pilgrimage on earth. The Gospel of Matthew affirms that every believer, even those who are the least and the abandoned are protected and guided by their respective guardian angels. The guardian angels look on God the almighty and tell Him that the children of the world whom they guide are God’s beloved people. Therefore, we in the world should live according to the will of God, because our guardian angels are always looking at us from above.
Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Father in heaven, we want always rely to You through our guardian angels. The angel of God, you who have been entrusted with God's grace to protect me, enlighten my way, guide me and take me to my destination safely. Amen. In the name of the Father ...
